Dr Jacob H Schmidt PhD MSc

CEO and Partner

Dr Jacob H Schmidt is a co-founder and CEO of Schmidt Research Partners Limited, set up in 2006.
He has over 30 years of experience in trading, investing and researching all major asset classes. Prior to founding Schmidt Research Partners he was co-founder and director of hedge fund rating and research firm Allenbridge Hedgeinfo (2000-2005). From 1996 to 1998 he was Vice President and Head of EM Derivatives, Austria, Germany & Switzerland at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette. Between 1994 and 1996 he was Assistant Vice President for EM Trading & Sales at Citibank London and began his career as Portfolio Manager at Creditanstalt-Bankverein in Vienna (1990-1994). As Chief Economist he sits on the investment committee of London-based wealth management firm NLPFM.
He read law at the University of Graz (1982-1984), finance and economics at the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, Austria (WU Wien) (1984-1990, MSc) and has a PhD in finance (2017) from the University of Graz, Austria. His research focus in his doctoral thesis is on financial crises, in particular the Great Crash of 1929 and the GFC of 2008. He is the author of a book on credit derivatives, several published papers on ESG, alternative investments and financial crises and is also a speaker at finance and investment conferences. He was Adjunct Professor of the American Webster University’s international faculty (School of Business and Technology researching investments and derivatives (1999-2016) and is now Assistant professor in Finance at Regent’s University London where he teachers and researches derivatives, entrepreneurial finance, investments and wealth management. Since 2016 he has been organising the Annual Wealth Management Forum at Regent’s University London.  
Jacob is a dual British-Austrian citizen and speaks several languages including English, French, German, Italian, Hebrew and Spanish. He completed 10 marathons and is a passionate skier and snowboarder. 
He divides his time between the UK, Israel and Austria.



Robert Clements BSc CFA FCA

Co-Head of Israel Office and Partner

Robert Clements joined Schmidt Research Partners in 2015 with responsibility for developing the Israeli office.
Previously he founded and ran Great Eastern Asset Management providing portfolio services for high-net-worth individuals for two years. Prior to this, he worked for three years at Excellence Investment Management establishing an Emerging Markets fund and a Frontier Markets fund. Before Excellence, Robert spent seven years at Hermes Investment Management in London, where he was head of Global Emerging Markets managing $2.5bn in asset and three years at Orbis Investment Management, specialising in Japanese equities. Between 2001 and 2005 he served as a Director of both the China Index Fund and the China Opportunities Fund. Since 2015 he has co-managed a volatility trading algorithm with Jay Blumenreich.
Robert is a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Financial Analysis (First Class), a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Robert is based in Raanana, Israel.



Jay Blumenreich BSc

Co-Head of Israel Office and Partner

Jay Blumenreich joined Schmidt Research Partners in 2015 with responsibility for developing the Israeli office. 
Previously he was the Risk Manager at Gems Advisors for 9 years overseeing U$8 billion in assets. Prior to this, he worked at the Risk Arbitrage desk at Maytal Securities in New York.
Before working in finance Jay was a managing Actuary at Aon Corp in New York for 7 years.  Jay also held actuarial positions at Coopers and Lybrand and Everest Re. 
In addition to building the Schmidt Research office in Israel Jay also consults at Israeli Banks in the ALM space and at Israeli Insurers in both Solvency and ALM. Since 2015 he has been co-managing a volatility trading algorithm with Robert Clements.
Jay is a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and a qualified Actuary.
Jay is based in Raanana, Israel.
